Kirsty McFarlane and Katie Burn, who are both studying HNC Acting and Performance at City of Glasgow College, will take to the stage ofWebster’s Theatre in Glasgow this week.
The one-of-a-kind show follows the full plot of Shakespeare’s original story but adds a contemporary punk twist, including a soundtrack comprising Joy Division,The Clash, Blondie, and Madness.
The former Hermitage Primary School pupils, who are 18, both discovered they had a talent for acting at a young age.
Kirsty will take on the role of Helena whilst Katie has been cast as Hippolyta.
Kirsty said:“We’ve spent months rehearsing for the show and I’ve really been enjoying the experience.
“When I was a kid, I’d always put on plays for my friends and family so I’m really looking forward to performing the play to an audience.”
Katie added:“I love acting as it gives you the opportunity to experience what being someone else is like.
“I really like being able to put my own stamp on a character and am excited to take on the role of Hippolyta.”
Stephen Cafferty, acting and performance lecturer at City of Glasgow College, praised Kirsty and Katie for their commitment to bringing the show to life.
He said:“This is a very ambitious and fun version of a Shakespeare classic.
“It’s the first time many of the students have performed Shakespeare, and they have done a superb job of embracing their characters on stage.”
