Mixed bag for re­sults

The ladies’fourth team from He­lens­burghTen­nis Club trav­elled toWeir Recre­ation with Jane Car­roll and Fiona MacLaren com­ing up against a very strong pair.

They fought hard, with many of the games go­ing to deuce.

But in the end their op­po­nents were too strong and they lost all three sets.

Bar­bara Gil­lies and Su­san Rus­sell at sec­ond cou­ple took the first set 6-3 but strug­gled in the windy con­di­tions and lost the next to sets 4-6, 3-6.

Sue Macrae and Frankie Han­mer at third cou­ple didn’t let their op­po­nents in­tim­i­date them and se­cured the open­ing set 6-4.

They let the sec­ond set slip but came back to take the fi­nal set 6-1.

The fi­nal score was a 3-6 de­feat.

The team then trav­elled to Bish­op­ton where they got their first win. Shona Bul­loch and Fiona MacLaren at first cou­ple found them­selves 2-5 down in the open­ing set.

They started to fo­cus on one par­tic­u­lar player pres­sur­ing her into mak­ing mis­takes which had the de­sired ef­fect as they took the set 7-5.

They then went on to take the next set 6-3 but lost the third 2-6.

Bar­bara Gil­lies and Clare Clax­ton, play­ing at sec­ond cou­ple, lost their open­ing set 5-7 along with the sec­ond set but snatched the third set 6-4.

Tr­ish Pryde stepped in at the last minute to play along­side Frankie Han­mer at third cou­ple.

They mir­rored the first cou­ple by com­ing back from 2-5 down to take the first set in a tiebreak and then romped home 6-0, 6-1.

The fi­nal score was a 6-3 win for He­lens­burgh. The ladies’first team faced di­vi­sion 1/1 lead­er­sVA La­nark­shire.

And with the team af­fected by in­juries as well as hav­ing to battle windy con­di­tions, it was al­ways go­ing to be tough.
