A festival of football
The sun was shining at recently for young footballers at clubs throughout the area as they took part in their first Helensburgh Subaru Tournament hosted by Ardencaple FC.
Boys and girls born in 2008-2010 from Haldane, Dumbarton Riverside, Dumbarton United, Jamestown, Antonine, Drumchapel United, Drumchapel Ams, Ardencaple and Helensburgh all got together to show off their skills at the recent tournament at Hermitage Academy.
Sponsored by the Subaru branch in Helensburgh, around 200 kids gathered together for the tournament in the glorious sunshine.
Ardencaple coach,Robert Holland, was delighted with the support and said: “We are so happy that Helensburgh Subaru has committed to sponsoring us.

In other tournaments, Ardencaple also brought an end to this year’s series of annual Toyota Tournament last Sunday, when the 2007 age group played host to teams from Dumbarton Riverside, Dumbarton United and Drumchapel United. A large crowd turned up to support the event and they were treated to some wonderful play and sporting behaviour on show from all teams.
Ardencaple chairman Craig Holborn and Ernie Cowan from Helensburgh Toyota presented medals to the players and addressed the crowd at the end of the tournament, thanking everyone - players, their parents and family members, and their coaches – as well as Ardencaple mums for their continued support and contributing towards yet another successful event.
Craig said: “What a great end to this year’s series of Toyota sponsored tournaments.
“We were blessed with a bright and sunny day so that everyone involved could enjoy the tremendous skills on display.
“A massive vote of thanks to all concerned at Helensburgh Toyota for their much valued support and on-going sponsorship.
“Quite simply, grassroots football could not survive in Scotland without the continued support and financial assistance from local businesses, and we at Ardencaple FC are very grateful to Helensburgh Toyota and indeed all of our very generous sponsors.”
