Lauren treads Broadway boards
A Dumbarton girl is on her way to living her New York Broadway dream after landing performing roles alongside some of the biggest stars in the industry.
Lauren Downie has been living in the Big Apple for the past five years, mingling with the stars and rubbing shoulders with acclaimed Broadway actors.
The 23-year-old kick started her performing career after gaining a diploma in musical theatre at the Dance School of Scotland in Glasgow.
From there, the talented performer graduated from the prestigious American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York – the same school attended by pop star Jason Derulo.
And after completing a number of successful TV roles and travelling to schools across the USA to share her skills in performing, former Dumbarton Academy pupil Lauren is hoping her big break is just around the corner.
She told the Lennox Herald: “Becoming a successful actor may not be as easy as they make it seem in movies and on TV.
“It is very difficult to make a living here, but that makes me even more determined to succeed.
“I am networking with as many people as I can, and this has given me acting work and I recently attended the Midtown International Theatre Festival, which is a well known festival in America.
“I am hoping that will help me on my way.”
Lauren will now be taking part in a number of performances in the Mass Rhetoric Festival alongside the Fundamental Theatre Project, which was founded by Hollywood actor Sam Underwood who has starred in shows such as Dexter, Homeland and the Following.
The project, in which Lauren will be starring alongside some big Broadway stars, has also received support from A-list actor Alec Baldwin.
Lauren added: “I never thought that five years ago I would be performing on a stage with famous actors and thinking it was quite normal.”
