West Dunbartonshire MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has paid tribute to fellow MP Jo Cox who was tragically killed.

The SNP politician said the mum-of two — who was shot and stabbed in her West Yorkshire constituency — was a “thoroughly decent person”.

Mr Docherty-Hughes said: “I was shocked to hear of the death of my colleague Jo Cox A globe trotting pooch who racked up 15,000 miles looking for a loving home has finally settled — in Balloch.

Lovable Vader, who has his own passport, is making up for lost time by showering his new owner Jen Gray with plenty of sloppy kisses and cuddles following his mammoth trip around the world.

The 10-year-old black labrador began his life in Kent before being whisked off to Dubai and then being handed over to another owner who didn’t look after him very well.

After being rescued by Jen’s friend in Dubai, he flew back to the UK before his new owner decided she couldn’t keep him any more either.

Jen, who owns the Drymen Inn, contacted the Lennox Herald to nominate the adorable lab — whose full name is Darth Vader — for our Pet of the Week competition following his adventurous life.

She said: “We went over to see my friend in Bathgate for a catch up and when she said Vader was going up for adoption, I said: ‘No we’ll take him’.

“We ended up leaving with Vader in our car and we have completely fallen in love with him. MP. On the occasions we met, she always said hello and asked how I was.

“I found Jo to be a thoroughly decent person and she was very passionate about representing her constituents, in the community where she grew up.”

The MP was targeted as she left a surgery in Birstall Library. She was stabbed and shot three times by a

“My partner Stuart loves Star Wars so as soon as he heard he was called Darth Vader, he was smitten.

“We love him so much and being an older dog he causes no fuss—just loves a swim in the loch with his ball and getting his tummy rubbed.

“My partner has two kids and we have a baby on the way and he is just such a gentlemen and massive part of our life now.

“He has been really protective of me while I’ve been pregnant.”

Vader’s first family moved from Dubai to Kent when he was young but left him in Dubai when they moved on again to Australia.

Jen, who also lived in Dubai for 10 years, continued: “He wasn’t very well looked after at all and was just left in the apartment and fed a terrible diet.

“He must have had a really miserable life and my friend eventually rescued him.

“He was extremely obese at that point and she brought him back to the UK.”

Jen continued: “I think he started with a nice life in the beginning. He is very well trained and good natured.

“He’s always so happy to see you and all he wants you to do is roll about on the floor with him.”

She added: “We couldn’t imagine ever giving up on him and want the last part of his life to be his best.”

Ms Cox, 41, had spent the morning giving an assembly at a local primary school before she attended the planned surgery.

Mr Docherty-Hughes said: “Jo was murdered coming from her surgery in Birstall Library and the most fitting tribute I can think of is to continue working as normal.

“I will continue to hold my surgeries at our local libraries across Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven and visit constituents and I will carry out my duties in Westminster on behalf of the communities of West Dunbartonshire.

“My thoughts and those of the whole parliament are with her family and her team at this terrible time.”

Thomas Mair, 52, has appeared in court charged with Ms Cox’s murder.
