Golden couple mark their special milestone
A Dumbarton couple have celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss.
Robert and Jennifer McMillan, from LanglandsTerrace in Bellsmyre, marked the milestone with a family celebration and a visit from Depute Provost John Millar.
Jennifer is originally fromWest Sussex, and Robert is from Dumbarton.
Jennifer’s oldest sister married Robert’s uncle and Robert used to travel to England to visit — and this is how the couple met.
Jennifer and Robert married in Upper Beeding church and Jennifer travelled north to Dumbarton to live with Robert and his mother.
Their first house was in Croft street, Bonhill, then they moved to Merkins Avenue in Bellsmyre when their daughter, Lorraine, was aged two.
They then went on to have a son, Robert.
When their daughter Lorraine left home they moved to LanglandsTerrace.
Jennifer used to work in her local village shop and Galbraiths in Dumbarton, before moving on to work in J&B canteen.
Robert was a milkman, coalman, cleansing operative, then a marine plumber, and a pipefitter in John Browns shipyard, Scotstoun.
