Golden cou­ple mark their spe­cial mile­stone

A Dum­bar­ton cou­ple have cel­e­brated 50 years of wed­ded bliss.

Robert and Jen­nifer McMil­lan, from Lang­land­sTer­race in Bellsmyre, marked the mile­stone with a fam­ily cel­e­bra­tion and a visit from De­pute Provost John Mil­lar.

Jen­nifer is orig­i­nally fromWest Sus­sex, and Robert is from Dum­bar­ton.

Jen­nifer’s old­est sis­ter mar­ried Robert’s un­cle and Robert used to travel to Eng­land to visit — and this is how the cou­ple met.

Jen­nifer and Robert mar­ried in Up­per Beed­ing church and Jen­nifer trav­elled north to Dum­bar­ton to live with Robert and his mother.

Their first house was in Croft street, Bon­hill, then they moved to Merkins Av­enue in Bellsmyre when their daugh­ter, Lor­raine, was aged two.

They then went on to have a son, Robert.

When their daugh­ter Lor­raine left home they moved to Lang­land­sTer­race.

Jen­nifer used to work in her lo­cal vil­lage shop and Gal­braiths in Dum­bar­ton, be­fore mov­ing on to work in J&B can­teen.

Robert was a milk­man, coal­man, cleans­ing op­er­a­tive, then a marine plumber, and a pip­efit­ter in John Browns ship­yard, Scot­stoun.
