Stars join bid to get Maid sailing again
A star of Dad’s Army and Outlander has teamed up with Celtic music legends Phil and Aly to get the Balloch-berthed Maid of the Loch sailing again.
Actor Bill Paterson, Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain appear in a new short film highlighting how the public can get involved with saving the steamship.
The film is being released for the launch of a crowdfunding campaign with a target to raise £125,000 in just six weeks to buy and install a boiler to power the steamship’s engine.
In the film Bill tells the story of the Maid while Phil and Aly play a specially composed song on the deck. There are views of Loch Lomond behind them and archive footage and photography showing the Maid in her heyday.
Bill said:“The Maid has a genuine opportunity to sail again, thanks to a generous pledge from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The many thousands of people who know and love the Maid will be aware of the long-running efforts to raise the funds to restore her.”
LLSC is working to raise £1.7m in order to release £3.8m of lottery cash.
The film can be seen and donations to the appeal can be made at www. crowdfunder.co.uk/maid-to-sail from Friday, October 27.
