Button it up

Let's Talk - - Postbag -

Reference Neil Haverson’s Last Word and his former colleague’s shirt button problem.

I buy shirts from Charles Tyrwhitt of Jermyn Street, London. They are good quality and reasonably priced, especially the sale offers.

I last had shirts from them in April this year and when I compared the size of the buttons with a white police shirt with which I was issued more than 50 years ago, I found they were, if anything, very slightly larger.

I know the police shirt is 50 years old as it is one of three I was issued with in December 1967 prior to promotion to inspector upon amalgamation of Norwich City and Yarmouth Borough with my force, Norfolk County, on January 1, 1968.
