WHAT A PEARL:
Calling all the knitters of Great Yarmouth area - who can you recognise in this great photo from October 1981? The occasion was the presentation of the Paton Silver rose bowl to Trudy Stolworthy of Bradwell, who was the winner of the Olivettes’ Handknitting Competition in Yarmouth. Olivettes was started by Olive Gillingwater - who later became Olive Harvey - when she was a young woman in 1931. She began with a wool shop in Market Row, Great Yarmouth, but built the haberdashery and children’s clothing business to have 12 stores in Yarmouth, Gorleston, Caister and Norwich. The last store closed in 1994. What are your memories of those shops?
