Plan to rebuild car crash house on year on
A PLANNING application has been submitted to repair and rebuild part of a woman’s home after a car crashed through her living room.
Rachel Edgecombe was in the house with her 12-year-old dog, Babeppe, and her neighbour’s golden retriever, eight-year-old Lucy, on Friday, March 3, 2023, when the car knocked down her living room wall at around 10pm.
It has also emerged that the driver of the car who caused the damage will not be prosecuted.
Emergency services rushed to the A607 High Road in Manthorpe, Grantham, following the crash which saw the driver sustain serious injuries and be taken to hospital. At the time, Ms Edgecombe, who has lived in the house since December 2021, recalled screaming for help and said it was a “miracle” that both the dogs survived.
An air ambulance was called to the scene and the driver was taken by ambulance to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
The road, which is part of the A607 and the main route in and out of Grantham, was closed in both directions for some time. Police decided not to prosecute the driver who caused the damage. Ms Edgecombe has now submitted a planning application to repair her home, which is a Grade II listed building located in the Manthorpe Conservation Area. A section of the design and access statement reads: “The rebuilding works at [the property] are essential for the long term conservation of the building and the choice of appropriate materials are sensitive to the special architectural and historic interest of the building.”
Another car had crashed into Ms Edgecombe’s house a few weeks prior to the incident, but was stopped by the force of the wall. She chose to stay at her neighbour’s immediately after the event due to her home being “under a pile of rubble” and her own home has been uninhabitable since the crash.
