Living Etc

Editor’s office

As I write, my pocket-sized London garden is being dug up and will (hopefully) soon be transformed into a stylish, multitasking outdoor space. Or that’s the plan. In reality, I’ve still not decided on a paint colour to use on the brickwork, nor am I sure which fencing finish I want… And I’ve not even begun thinking about plants. Thank heavens for my very patient landscaper! Our report on modern gardens (page 133) and the essential outdoor shopping guide (page 63) couldn’t have come at a better time and while I might not be in the market for a lap pool or inflatable, outdoor Chesterfield sofa just yet, there are plenty of easy, clever ideas to inspire my project.

Also this month, as we gear up for the holiday season, we’ve been looking to global influences, in homes in Miami (page 38), on the Portuguese coast (page 112) and South Africa (page 92), decorating trends from Mexico to Japan (page 69) and a shopping trend that’s so very ‘now’ – Seventies California (page 51), where Kelly Wearstler-cool meets surfer-boy edge. What a combination! So whether you’re heading to exotic climes or crossing your fingers for a fine British summer, there should be plenty to inspire you in this issue! Enjoy.

We’ve teamed up with leading interiors website Clippings.com to launch The Livingetc Edit – our selection of the most gorgeous pieces for your home. From designer lighting to cute egg cups, we’ve hand-picked the best items for stylish modern living. Go to Livingetcedit.com and start shopping!
