Follow the 60-30-10 decorating rule to add interest to a neutral space if you’re colour shy: 60 per cent of a room is for your primary colour palette (think walls, floors, rugs and sofas), while 30 per cent is dedicated to your secondary colour palette (soft furnishings and accent furniture). ‘Your 10 per cent is your accent colour,’ says Will taylor, colour consultant. ‘this could include lamps, cushions, artwork and accessories.’

Find a similar sofa at the Lola ottoman, £795, is by Anne Kyyrö Quinn.
