Including both a freestanding bath and shower into this slender space was the challenge presented to Katie Agombar, designer at West One Bathrooms. ‘My starting point was to clad the far wall in ribbed black marble tiles to draw the eye along the length of the room,’ she says. The floor was tanked to prevent water leakage, then tiled and finished with a discreet drain at the bottom of the marble wall. A panel of bronze-tinted glass prevents water splashing on to the basin vanity area and zones the showering space.

It made sense to position the bath below the window, so that it is possible to enjoy the best garden views. ‘We chose a tapered design to reduce any sense of bulk, echoing its shape in the choice of the oval basin. Both serve to soften the contemporary grid formed by the vanity and wall-hung Agape Sen basin mixer,’ Katie says. ‘Wall-hung fittings ensure that the floor is freed up, boosting the spacious feel of the room.’
