everyone’s talking about... 6 WHITE LAMPS
This aesthetic is all about stripping out colour and emphasising shape instead
MODERN CLASSIC
After many years out of print, the Visiere lamp, made out of aluminium and painted in a cool white hue, is back in production in a signed and numbered unlimited edition. Looking a little like it’s coming in to land (clear a space on that sideboard!), this piece is a testament to the beauty of all-white lighting. LONG AND TALL
At first glance, this lamp is a somewhat simple merging of shapes; the tall and thin base column is the perfect perching spot for the spherical opaque glass shade at the top. However, there’s more to the Chubes lamp design than just an elegant and contemporary presence. Each reeded tube creates its own ombré of light and shade when the light is switched on and in use. TWIT TWOO
Designer Nicholai Wiig Hansen wanted to create something distinctly Nordic when he designed this squat but charismatic lamp called Night Owl. Atop the conical base sits a rather unusual shaped shade and it’s positioned off centre in order for the correct cascade of light to flow downward. The colours (of which there are a few to choose from, including Midnight Blue and natural Ash Wood) are all influenced by nature. This option, Smokey White, is inspired by the chalky white glowing light of the moon. Night Owl table lamp, £143, Fritz Hansen
HERE AT LAST
Originally designed in 1971 by the American designer Bill Curry, the Obello was unusual for its time as it was designed and constructed entirely from glass, eradicating the need for a separate base. Curry sadly died the same year and his prototype was not put into production. With the endorsement of his family,
Gubi has released it half a century later. It’s now wireless, so can be easily moved between inside and out. Obello lamp, £249, Bill Curry at Gubi
