Gym members keep CALM and raise cash

-

A LLANELLI gym has seen a record breaking effort by its members, ex-rugby players and runners.

Robert Davies Health and Fitness in Dafen, held a charity ski machine event which saw a distance of 100km covered in just under five hours.

Nineteen men took part taking it in turns on the Ski Erg machine which is used for cross country ski training.

More than £1,200 was raised for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably).

James Cartwright of Conquer Fitness led the challenge. The event took four hours 45 minutes to complete, each member working in a relay pattern to achieve the distance.

James said: “It was an epic display of determination, athletic performance and team work.

“This by far was the most rewarding experience, watching 19 men of all backgrounds and abilities come together and suffer for a great cause and become great friends in the process.

“In the process we managed to raise more than £1,200 and still counting for CALM.

“Due to hearing about so many tragic events in the surrounding area and members of our own community at Robert Davies Health and Fitness being directly affected it was an obvious choice of campaign to support.

“We hope we have helped raise awareness of an issue that’s is misunderstood and neglected. We are extremely grateful for all the generous donations.”
