Success for Dafen as Bronwydd batsmen struggle
BRONWYDD travelled to Dafen for their final game of the 2018 South Wales Cricket Association season on Saturday and lost by 43 runs.
The home team batted first and never really looked comfortable against Bronwydd’s bowlers. Home captain Nicky Davies made 43 from 103 balls and the next best score was 30 by opener Matthew Evans.
This season the Bronwydd bowlers have maintained tight lines and only rarely have the opposition batsmen been in control. Tom Gleeson (3-24) and his brother George (3-34) did most of the damage and were backed up by Matthew Vaughan (2), Gihan Fernando (1) and James Cale (1). Dafen finished on a below-par 155.
The problems that Bronwydd experienced in the early part of the season were again on display, as after a good start by Cale (37) and James Dickson (13) the other batsmen were unable to build partnerships. Oli Furneaux (21) and Dafydd Morgan (13) showed how to do it but Bronwydd lost wickets at regular intervals. A late flourish from Mathew Vaughan with 10 was unable to stop Dafen doing the double over Bronwydd as the final wicket fell with the score on a disapointing 112. Jonathan Randall was the pick of the bowlers with 4-15.
Bronwydd will reflect on the 2018 season in the knowledge that they could compete in division one with more application from their talented batting line-up.
