New boys make early statements with victories
THERE was a winning start for newly promoted sides Porthcawl and Birchgrove in Two West Central.
Three West Central A champions Porthcawl were 20-12 winners at Cwmavon.
Captain Richard Hynda grabbed a try alongside scores by Owen Thomas and Tom Davies. Josh White kicked the remaining five points.
Scott Roberts and Neil Gadd claimed the Cwmavon tries with Gadd also kicking a conversion.
Birchgrove, who pipped Swansea Uplands to the second promotion place last season, started with a 3310 victory at Nantymoel.
Adam Rowlands bagged 23 points with a try, four penalties and three conversions. Jack Perkins and Scott Beard were also on the scoresheet.
Ystradgynlais got off to a winning start with a 32-21 victory over Morriston. Emyr Addey and Liam Harris scored 10 points each with Addey crossing twice and Harris kicking two conversions and two penalties.
Steff Jones and Dominic Williams added tries while Emyr Lawrence struck a conversion.
Resolven ran in six tries in a 48-15 win over Taibach.
Owen Evans and Christian Sandry both went over twice. Evans added a penalty and five conversions, with Jake Rees, Richard Morgan and Shenton Ned touching down. All of Taibach’s points came from the boot of Aaron Jones.
Seven Sisters fell to a 31-10 defeat to Builth Wells. A penalty try and a Daniel Short penalty were all Sisters could muster.
Nantyffyllon beat Pencoed 57-3.
