Stars rack up half-century in impressive opening

-

ABERAVON Green Stars made a bright start in Three West Central A with a 50-3 win over Neath Athletic.

Alwyn Williams and Chris Leyshon both scored two tries and they were backed up by Thomas Barnard, Ben Evans and Carwyn Evans.

Sean Curran added six of the seven conversions and added a penalty.

The two newly-promoted sides took on each other, with Vardre getting the better of Three West Central B champions Tonmawr in a 25-22 win.

Ben Williams-Jones, Josh Collier and Luke Jones all went over for Vardre but they couldn’t find the fourth try for a bonus point.

But seven points from Shane Davies’s boot and a Richard Brunton penalty ensured they took the win.

Cwmgors were among the teams to open with a victory; they beat Penlan 19-10.

Robert Clive and Dylan Hills touched down for Cwmgors and Paul Davies did his job from the tee by kicking three penalties.

Ceri Adams bagged Penlan’s sole try and Stuart James kicked five points.

Meanwhile, tries from Dai Pound, Rory Bodenham and Ieuan Evans helped Pyle to a 21-3 win at Abercrave. Will Gallivant kicked the rest of the points, while Nathan Roberts kicked a penalty for Abercrave.

In a low-scoring encounter, all it took was a Gareth Andrew try and two Tom Osbourne penalties for Swansea Uplands to beat Bryncoch 11-8.

But Glais were annihilated 101-0 by Bridgend Sports.
