Davies storms to race vic­tory after gru­elling climb

THE sec­ond run­ning of Ras y Dewin, a 4.7-mile fell race with a to­tal el­e­va­tion gain of 870 feet or­gan­ised by Sarn He­len Run­ning Club’s Car­wyn Davies, has taken place.

At the top of the climb three run­ners, Dee Jolly, Nigel Davies and Geraint Evans, emerged with a clear lead. The fi­nal 100 me­tres back to the fin­ish was an en­ter­tain­ing sprint fin­ish that saw Davies fin­ish in 39:40, fol­lowed by Jolly in 39:41. Third in 40:17 was Evans. A prize for first lo­cal went to Mathew Hand in 44:18.

Other Sarn He­len Club re­sults: Tony Hall 44:26, Calvin Wil­liams 48:50, Lyn Rees 59:36, Jane Holmes and Emma Davies 74:21.

At the an­nual TROTS 10k in St Clears, Ken Caulkett fin­ished third over­all in 37:07, while his wife Jenny knocked half a minute off her pre­vi­ous 10k best with 57:28. Car­wyn Thomas ran 45:24.

The Pop­pit 5k Race Se­ries saw Sarn He­len mem­bers take some im­pres­sive cat­e­gory prizes in the in­di­vid­ual races and through­out the se­ries.

Ju­nior mem­ber Rhys Wil­liams won all three races out­right and, for the third year run­ning, won the ju­nior race se­ries. His third event was his fastest in a stag­ger­ing 8:02.

Alaw Jones also claimed the se­ries win after com­pet­ing at all three events. She was sec­ond in the first two races but in the third event she ran her fastest time of 9:30.

Also on the se­ries podium was Jac Rees, who was sec­ond ju­nior boy. Nia Wil­liams clocked a mas­sive PB of 10:59 at the fi­nal meet.

Other ju­nior PBs through­out the se­ries: Harri Rivers 9:59, Tudur Jones won 1st ju­nior boy at the first event in 10:33, Sean Wood 10:52, Gwen­l­lian Ll­wyd 10:28, St­ef­fan Rivers 11:51, Non Crimes won 1st ju­nior girl at the sec­ond event in 10:40.

Dy­lan Lewis clinched a win at the first event in 17:28. Other best times that night for Sarn He­len were: Tom Wil­loughby 19:48, David Thomas 23:54 and Sian Roberts-Jones 24:09. Carol Rees and Liz Pugh scored their best times on the sec­ond evening, Rees in 27:13 and Pugh in 28:12.

Eleri and Mark Rivers ran three events and for the sec­ond year took gold in their re­spec­tive cat­e­gories.
