Second-half try blitz sees Drovers lay down a marker

-

LLANDOVERY put down an early marker as they cruised to an emphatic victory over Bargoed.

A devastating spell of four tries in 12 minutes after the interval saw the Drovers turn the screw as they began where they left off at the end of last season, where they reeled off six wins on the bounce.

Aaron Warren scored twice with Stuart Worrall, Berian Watkins, Lee Rees, Gavin Thomas, Jamie Hughes, Ryan Evans and a penalty try all on the scoresheet. Jack Maynard added six conversions and a penalty.

Ashley Norton crossed twice for Bargoed, who also had a penalty try. Josh Prosser kicked five points.

Drovers captain Richard Brooks said: “It was a perfect start to the season. The first 30 minutes were really tough and Bargoed came at us, but we knew with our great back-line that our fitness would tell and we would score a lot more tries. We’ve been working on a few strike moves specifically for this game, so it just goes to show the hard work and the patience you go through in training does pay off.”

Bargoed head coach David Lynch said: “We knew exactly what they can bring to the game and it’s really difficult to stop it, even when you know what’s going to happen.

“We did a lot of good things but lacked the killer instinct.”
