Robertson shines for home bri­gade in Open

THE an­nual Se­niors Open at Der­llys Court Golf Club at­tracted more than 100 play­ers.

Vis­i­tors from Mond Val­ley, Pon­tar­dawe, Rhondda, Lang­land Bay, Pen­rhos, Fair­wood Park, Car­marthen, Tenby, Gower, Coedy-Mw­stwr and Pennard joined home play­ers at Der­llys to make up an en­try list of 104.

A hole-in-one at the fifth hole for Fair­wood’s Steve Ge­orge was one of the high­lights of the day, with the top two scores go­ing to Peter El­lis (40pts) and Philip Evans (39), both from Mond Val­ley in Cly­dach. They took the first two places in the 65-69 age group.

In the younger age group (5564), home player Ian Robertson again showed his abil­ity to win at big tour­na­ments with his 38 points tak­ing first place in that group. The Se­niors Open win­ners at Der­llys Court Golf Club.

Rhondda’s Brian Cook was just one point be­hind in sec­ond spot.

In the older age group for over-70s, Richard Ash’s 38 points clinched first place for the Pon­tar­dawe vis­i­tor, push­ing Lang­land’s Tony Mor­ris into sec­ond by just a sin­gle point.

Prizes for twos were awarded to Colin Wal­ters (Der­llys Court), Hugh John (Lang­land), Ge­off White (Pen­rhos), Richard Heli­well (Pon­tar­dawe), Jim Richards (Mond Val­ley) and John Davies (Mond Val­ley), with John Sprat­ley from Pen­rhos – near­est the pin – and David Mould of Mond Val­ley hit­ting the long­est drive, also get­ting among the prizes.

The se­niors com­pete in a Texas scram­ble this week, with South Pembs also vis­it­ing the club for a team match.
