Lloyd claims gold glory

TOWY Rid­ers sent a team of three 13-year-olds to the Na­tional Youth Cham­pi­onship fi­nal over the week­end.

They had qual­i­fied af­ter win­ning their way through the re­gional qual­i­fiers in Glynneath.

The event was run by the East­ern Dis­trict on a fast 10mile course out­side Nor­wich, where all three of the club’s rep­re­sen­ta­tives achieved per­sonal best times and one re­turned with an age-group win­ner’s medal.

In a field of 150 rid­ers, Bro Myrd­din pupil To­mos Perkins recorded a time of 25 min­utes 39 sec­onds to fin­ish 90th over­all, with Maes y Gwen­draeth’s Iago Wil­liams record­ing a time of 23.19 to fin­ish 63rd over­all.

Mor­gan Lloyd clinched his age group’s win­ner’s medal, set­ting a blis­ter­ing time of 21.59. The Maes y Gwen­draeth pupil also man­aged 38th over­all in a strong na­tional field of rid­ers.

With time tri­alling com­ing to its win­ter hia­tus, all three cy­clists will look to build on their per­for­mances with an eye on next year.
