Lloyd claims gold glory
TOWY Riders sent a team of three 13-year-olds to the National Youth Championship final over the weekend.
They had qualified after winning their way through the regional qualifiers in Glynneath.
The event was run by the Eastern District on a fast 10mile course outside Norwich, where all three of the club’s representatives achieved personal best times and one returned with an age-group winner’s medal.
In a field of 150 riders, Bro Myrddin pupil Tomos Perkins recorded a time of 25 minutes 39 seconds to finish 90th overall, with Maes y Gwendraeth’s Iago Williams recording a time of 23.19 to finish 63rd overall.
Morgan Lloyd clinched his age group’s winner’s medal, setting a blistering time of 21.59. The Maes y Gwendraeth pupil also managed 38th overall in a strong national field of riders.
With time trialling coming to its winter hiatus, all three cyclists will look to build on their performances with an eye on next year.
