KIDWELLY END ON A HIGH NOTE

WITH just a week to go in the outdoor bowling season, much has been decided in the Llanelli & District League with just one promotion place to be decided.

Premier division champions Kidwelly Town finished their season with a maximum-points win at Carmarthen, leaving the St Peter’s side in danger of relegation.

But Blue Anchor’s failure to take maximum points at relegated Brynhyfryd will send the Penclawddbased team to division one next year.

Calsonic Wanderers held the key to the final promotion place from division one by hosting hopefuls Dafen Welfare and Gorseinon over their final two matches.

Saturday’s result at home to Dafen Welfare has effectively decided the matter after Gorseinon recorded a massive win against Ammanford Town and Calsonic restricted Dafen to just four points in a two-shot victory, leaving both teams with an equal total of points.

However, Dafen have completed their season and Gorseinon must avoid losing at Calsonic this Saturday by 47 shots or more without taking any points.

Should they manage to complete this, they will take the promotion place ahead of Dafen.

Division two promotion places were also decided this week. In a resumed match, Llangennech & Bryn took 12 points against Cross Hands and confirmed their promotion from division two as champions.

On Saturday, New Lodge gained the second promotion slot with a home win over Dafen Welfare Crusaders.
