DEWI STORMS TO CAPITAL GLORY

Repeating his performanc­e from 2017, the Carmarthen­shire runner went out from the front and never looked back, claiming victory for the second year in succession in a time of 29.10.

Llanelli Athletics Club club seniors turned out in their numbers at the 2018 edition of the race, with no fewer than 25 red and white vests taking to the start line.

Taking a new route this year, the course took over 5,000 participan­ts past some of the capital’s landmarks on a fast, flat course.

Welsh Olympian Christian Malcolm was on hand to sound the horn to mark the start of the races.

The club from the Pemberton area of Llanelli saw 10 of its athletes record new lifetime bests over the 10k distance.

Earlier on in the morning there was the opportunit­y for hundreds of Llanelli Athletic Club runners at the Cardiff 10k. young fun runners to compete over a distance of 2k for all ages before the main event shortly after 10am.

Carys Wood from Carmarthen Harriers finished in a new personal best of seven minutes 17 seconds, placing second in the 11 and 12-yearold age group.

Thousands of club athletes and charity runners will head to the 2018 Admiral Swansea Bay 10k road race, which is being held on the seafront near St Helen’s rugby ground this Sunday (September 16).

It will include a series of races for juniors over 1k, 3k and 5k, which are always popular.

It will provide one of the final opportunit­ies ahead of the Cardiff Half Marathon and Cardiff Festival of Running events at the beginning of October.
