Home comforts crucial as Drovers stay on winning track

-

LLANDOVERY head coach Euros Evans was full of praise for his men as they defeated Cardiff to make it two wins out of two.

The Drovers did not lose a single home league game last season and their impressive defence of Church Bank continued at the expense of the Blue and Blacks.

It was Llandovery’s 18th consecutive Premiership win at home, and on the evidence of this game it will take a huge effort from someone to stop the run.

“I thought we controlled the game very well,” said Evans.

“We knew that we had to match Cardiff ’s bigger forwards and winning the breakdowns was a key factor.

“The back row of Shaun Miles, Richard Brooks and Stuart Worrall were immense for us.

“Our lighter pack proved to be mobile and quicker to the loose ball.

“Cardiff had some big names in their line-up but we challenged them hard for a win that will give us confidence for the rest of the season.”

A penalty try and Joe Powell were on the scoresheet for Llandovery, with Jack Maynard adding their other points from the tee. Steffan Jones kicked a penalty for the visitors.

Cardiff coach Steve Law was full of praise for the Drovers’ effort.

“We did not match their commitment and hunger for the loose ball and our players need to take a look at themselves,” he said. LLANDOVERY – Tries: Pen try, J Powell. Con: J Maynard. Pens: J Maynard (2).

CARDIFF – Pen: S Jones.
