Man butted in the face by a stranger

-

A MAN was butted in the face by a stranger at a Llanelli pub, a court has been told.

The victim had been enjoying a night out but had only been in the town an hour when he was struck by 31-year-old Nicholas Anthony McNamara at the York Palace JD Wetherspoon pub.

McNamara, of Blaenau Road, Llandybie, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault when he appeared at Llanelli Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Prosecutor Julie Sullivan said the incident occurred at 10.30pm on August 26.

“The victim was standing by the stairs and had only been there a few minutes when the defendant, who the victim did not know, came up to him and started talking,” she said.

“He was asking if he knew who he was and who his uncle was. The victim asked him to move out of his way as he was trying to talk to another person but the defendant kept getting in the way.”

She added: “From out of nowhere, McNamara butted with full force into the face of the victim, connecting with his nose, causing it to cut and bleed.”

The victim had fallen to the floor and then stood up with blood dripping from his nose.

He also suffered bruising in the attack.

Defence solicitor Grayson Tanner said “There was some argument that he accepts he shouldn’t have been involved with, his decision making was flawed at the time.”

McNamara was fined £461 for the assault and told to pay £85 court costs, together with an £85 victim surcharge and £100 in compensation to the victim.
