Defeats for leading pair

-

THERE were shocks in division one of the Costcutter League as Newcastle Emlyn and Crannog – two sides with 100% records – both tasted defeat.

Emlyn went down 2-1 at Llandysul and Crannog lost 1-0 against reigning champions Lampeter Town at North Road.

In a close encounter at Llandysul, the home side were put under intense pressure for part of the second half but just about deserved the verdict.

Striker Gareth Winston netted from close range to give Llandysul an interval lead, and although the visitors drew level, midfielder Lewis Jones grabbed the winner with a deflected effort in injury time.

Town took the lead in the first five minutes when Jason Jones put Gethin Hunter through and he finished clinically. It was nip and tuck for the rest of the game with Crannog mounting waves of attacks in the final 10 minutes when home goalkeeper Dylan Evans pulled off a string of saves, including a stunning stop to deny George Colven.

Bargod Rangers opened their account at the fifth attempt when springing a 4-2 win over a youthful Ffostrasol at Parc Puw.

Striker Jake Kelly hit a hattrick and the other goal was netted by Josh Grota.

Llanboidy beat Cardigan Town 2-0.
