Youth club boost for village

-

YOUNG people in Pontyberem are set to benefit from a new youth club coming to Pontyberem.

The youth club will be set up by a community group under the banner Clwb Ieuenctid Pontyberem, and is working towards a purpose use building in a few years’ time.

The community of Pontyberem have been drawn together to address the need of young people in Pontyberem with the expertise and drive to enable young people to have somewhere they can go.

Clwb Ieuenctid Pontyberem will be a hub for young people to relax, explore who they are, gain new skills and help the community.

Steve Sellers, project leader said: “I moved to Pontyberem and fell in love with it. What surprised me was how the community comes together for the betterment of each other. What surprised me was the lack of Youth Facilities in Pontyberem and the surrounding communities.”

Liam Bowen, community and county councillor is supporting this new drive and is taking a co-lead with Steve to ensure that young people get the service they need:

“Having discussed this idea with Steve Sellers, I was inspired by his experience and the care he has for young people in Carmarthenshire.

“Young People are truly amazing and can achieve outstanding results when they are giving the support and facilities to do so.

“This is what we are now working towards and I hope more members of the community will come on board.”

Clwb Ieuenctid Pontyberem is entering the planning stage with a follow-up meeting taking place some time before Christmas, but they will be trialling a few days in February half-term where young people can take part in activities and speak to qualified youth workers about what they want. The club is also looking for community members to join their committee and help get this venture off the ground.
