Work due to revamp main gateway to town centre
A MAJOR road resurfacing programme will get under way next week to improve one of Llanelli town centre’s main gateways.
Gelli Onn on the A484 is among the town’s main road systems and the road surface is due for repair, starting on Monday.
The work is part of a multi-million county wide project to maintain roads.
To keep disruption to a minimum, work will take place during evenings and overnight between 7pm and 4am.
It will take place in phases weeks.
Traffic will follow diversions, but alternative access arrangements are being put in place for taxis and emergency services.
Letters have also been sent to residents in the vicinity of the works.
Most businesses should be unaffected due to the hours of work.
Carmarthenshire Council executive board member for the environment councillor Hazel Evans said: “We are investing significantly in sustaining our highway network, with £4 million of improvements under way across over the approximately next four the county, and the resurfacing of Gelli Onn is part of this programme.
“Gelli Onn is a major part of the road network around Llanelli town centre, so we are mindful that this may cause some traffic disruption.
“This is why we have planned to undertake the work in phases and outside peak traffic hours to minimise disruption.
“We would like to thank everyone in advance for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are under way.”
