Clwb Hamdden Members met on Tuesday, September 11, at the Bancffosfelen and Crwbin Hall, being welcomed back after the summer break by chairman Cy Rees. Booking of next year’s summer holiday confirmed as were the date and venue of this year’s club Christmas dinner. The guest speaker was Anwen Rees, a local girl, who after attending Aberystwyth University went on to join the BBC musical and events broadcasting, firstly as a researcher, assistant producer and now a producer. Anwen gave an excellent powerpoint presentation of her work incorporating Young Musician of the Year, Cardiff Singer of the Year and the National Eisteddfod. She has also produced several documentaries, one of which secured a Bafta Cymru award. Her role has become global, including engagements in America, Russia, Finland and Switzerland. She praised her strong professional team. A vote of thanks was given by the club chairman, her uncle, Cyrus, and appreciation to Eric Lewis for his technical assistance. The evening concluded with light refreshments. Next month’s speaker is Sharon Griffiths on environmental recycling. Meetings are on the second Tuesday of the month. Talking Books Wales On Friday November 9 at 7pm Rhys Meirion will launch his book Storiau Grav in Pontyberem Hall. By then the book will have been recorded for people who are blind or partially sighted. The launch will be followed with a concert featuring Rhys, Elin Fflur, Aled Wyn Davies and the Menter Youth Theatre. Tickets will be released this month and further details given later on.
