Coal­brook Surgery flu clinic Pa­tients over 65 years and un­der 65 in an ‘at risk’ group are el­i­gi­ble for a free flu vac­ci­na­tion. From the first week of Oc­to­ber flu vac­cines will be given to pa­tients reg­is­tered at the surgery on Mon­days and Wed­nes­days noon to 1pm and 5pm to 6pm un­til sup­plies run out.

Clwb Hamd­den Mem­bers met on Tues­day, Septem­ber 11, at the Bancf­fos­fe­len and Cr­w­bin Hall, be­ing wel­comed back af­ter the sum­mer break by chair­man Cy Rees. Book­ing of next year’s sum­mer holiday con­firmed as were the date and venue of this year’s club Christ­mas din­ner. The guest speaker was An­wen Rees, a lo­cal girl, who af­ter at­tend­ing Aberys­t­wyth Univer­sity went on to join the BBC mu­si­cal and events broad­cast­ing, firstly as a re­searcher, as­sis­tant pro­ducer and now a pro­ducer. An­wen gave an ex­cel­lent pow­erpoint pre­sen­ta­tion of her work in­cor­po­rat­ing Young Mu­si­cian of the Year, Cardiff Singer of the Year and the National Eisteddfod. She has also pro­duced sev­eral doc­u­men­taries, one of which se­cured a Bafta Cymru award. Her role has be­come global, in­clud­ing en­gage­ments in Amer­ica, Rus­sia, Fin­land and Switzer­land. She praised her strong pro­fes­sional team. A vote of thanks was given by the club chair­man, her un­cle, Cyrus, and ap­pre­ci­a­tion to Eric Lewis for his tech­ni­cal as­sis­tance. The evening con­cluded with light re­fresh­ments. Next month’s speaker is Sharon Griffiths on en­vi­ron­men­tal re­cy­cling. Meet­ings are on the sec­ond Tues­day of the month. Talk­ing Books Wales On Fri­day Novem­ber 9 at 7pm Rhys Meirion will launch his book Sto­riau Grav in Pon­ty­berem Hall. By then the book will have been recorded for peo­ple who are blind or par­tially sighted. The launch will be fol­lowed with a con­cert fea­tur­ing Rhys, Elin Fflur, Aled Wyn Davies and the Men­ter Youth Theatre. Tick­ets will be re­leased this month and fur­ther de­tails given later on.
