APP ofthe WEEK

-

SHORTCUTS is part of Apple’s iOS 12 update for iPhone and iPad, and it’s an incredible piece of work that allows you to create your own little workflows that you can trigger via Siri.

It began life as an app called Workflow, which has been available for iOS for a number of

years, and which Apple bought last year.

Under a new name, Apple has refocussed it as a way to string together tasks that you can trigger with a Siri command.

So, for example, you can ask Siri to “go to work” and a pre-programmed routine that

gets your route to work in Maps, informs you of your meetings for the day, and then fires up your favourite commute playlist runs.

It also works with Apple’s HomeKit home automation software, so that “get to work” command could also lock all your doors and

turn on your alarm, if you have the right hardware…

It’s well executed, and features a whole library of pre-created workflows you can edit, or programme your own – it’s fun to experiment with and also useful.

That’s not a bad combination in an app…
