WHITES OFF TO WINNING START

MATCHROOM Whites made a winning start to their defence of the Llanelli Snooker League title with an aggregate 4-3 win over Snooker World courtesy of victories by Dai Roberts, Ashley Edwards (39 break) and Tyler Rees (Chris Davies 44 break). Sam Hinton, Andrew Whitfield and Callum Jackson replied.

Elsewhere, Rob Hughes (50), Nicky Hughes and Greg Davies gave Morfa a winning start, 4-3 against Reading Room Blues.

Adrian Gower,Kieran Leaf and Tony Redmond struck for the Burry Port men.

Adam Griffiths, Kevin Sullivan and Mike Footman edged Pontarddul­ais Workmen’s A home 4-3 at Upper Tumble Blues, for whom Carwyn Cue, Chris Rees and James Bradley won.

Phil Thickett, Darren Williams, Rob Penn and Sam Jenkins earned New Lodge A a 4-3 win at Llanelli Cons A, whose winning duo were Julian Davies and Keith Moore.

Matthew Stevens (55), Jamie Clarke (67), Craig Price and Phil Williams gave Matchroom Reds a 5-2 success at Pontyberem Workmen’s, for whom Karl Goble and Alun Harris were on top, while Burry Port Legion kicked off with a 5-2 victory at neighbours Reading Room Blues thanks to Rich Nurse, Rich Evans, Dean Thomas and James White.

For Clwb Bach, Peter Kelly and James Ellis were on the ball.

Gorseinon Workmen’s began with a 5-2 win against Tycroes RFC A, where Keith Murrell, Mike Dodd, Luke Murrell and Mike Davies (36) struck.

Marc Walters and Mikey Hopkins won for the rugby club.

Kieran Proctor, Carl Thomas, Mike Lloyd and Lewis Lloyd earned Trimsaran A a 5-2 win on the road at Llandybie Social A.

Wyn Major and Huw Morgan won for the home side.

In division two, the best win of the opening night was at New Lodge B where visitors Llanelli Cons B earned a whitewash 7-0 victory thanks to wins by Kev John, Peter Evans, Paul Angelone, Joe Phillips, John Lewis and Viv Roach.

Bryn & Trallwm won 5-2 against Llandybie Social B thanks to Craig Williams (34), Dale Evans and Clive Richards. Social replied via Paul Davies and Steve Pearson.

Peter Hopkins, David Gabe, Danny Carr and Gethin Daniel gave Pontarddul­ais Workmen’s B a 5-2 success over Upper Tumble Reds, whose winning pair were Kevin Evans and Nigel Beynon, while Terry Matthews’s solitary frame win averted a whitewash for Calsonic Rivals, beaten 6-1 at Great Mountain. Elton Rees, Elliott Rees, Greg James, Rhodri Jones and John Griffiths all won for the Tumble side.

Clive Jones and Ray Davies were Tycroes RFC B’s frame-winners in a 5-2 defeat at the hands of Llandybie RFC, for whom Dylan Jones, Andrew Evans, Sion Isaac and Mark Hughes were on song.

Ponthenri Social were grateful to Jeff Howells, Craig Howells, Craig Chandler and Alun James, winners in a 5-2 victory at Cross Hands B. For the hosts, Gerald Evans and Jeff Jones were on top.
