WITH the countdown to Christmas well and truly on, Llanelli’s annual parade is just around the corner.

The festive event will be heading to the town on Friday, November 23, and will feature a carnival parade, funfair and the all important Christmas lights switch on.

The day sees a number of stalls line the streets in the build up to what is often referred to as Carmarthenshire’s largest community event, with plenty of food, drinks and gifts on offer throughout the day.

David Darkin, president of the Llanelli Chamber of Trade and Commerce, said: “The Christmas carnival is fantastic for Llanelli.

“It’s the largest Christmas carnival in Wales and something that Llanelli can be proud of.

“It’s building and building every year and we’ve had the recent success of the Llanelli food festival too, so I’m sure everyone will have a fantastic time.”

Also featuring this year will be the return of the Cairngorm reindeer to the town centre.

Llanelli’s reindeer parade will be taking place on Saturday, December 1 at noon as they tow Santa on his sleigh through the town.

The route will see the reindeer head from Park Street through to Mincing Lane and on to Bridge Street, Vaughan Street and Stepney Street before finishing in Spring Gardens.

Live music and entertainment will be provided from the likes of the City of Swansea pipe band, the Royal British Legion band and the Celtique Twirlers.

There will also be a number of princesses joining the parade and children will have the chance to win a ride in Cinderella’s carriage and Santa’s sleigh.

Ymlaen Llanelli will be running a competition for Business Improvement District levy paying businesses’ where children can win a ride in either the reindeer sleigh or the Cinderella carriage.

Lesley Richards, Ymlaen Llanelli chair, “We are very much looking forward to our annual reindeer parade which brings a huge amount of footfall into town.

“There’s always a lovely atmosphere for the event and we hope this year’s will be bigger and better with the addition of an ice sculpturer carving an ice reindeer and a rock band who will be performing Christmas classics following the parade.

“It’s going to be amazing! We are also making it cheaper for families to come to town on the day by offering £1 all day parking in the multi storey.

“The initiative is now running until Saturday, January 12.”

Visitors to the town centre will have the chance to park for £1 in the Murray Street multi-storey car park all day on a Saturday until January 12.
