Disqualifed driver found riding stolen motorbike
B BBA MAN disqualified from driving was found riding a stolen motorbike with a pillion passenger who was not wearing a helmet when he collided with a police car.
Ashley Jordan Cann, 22, was jailed for the offence when he appeared before Llanelli Magistrates’ Court.
Prosecutor Sian Vaughan said Cann also had a knuckleduster on him when police arrested him following the accident in Llanelli on March 30. He also had traces of cannabis resin in his blood.
Cann, of Clos Maes Yr Ysgol, Pontarddulais, pleaded guilty to taking the 125cc motorbike without the owner’s consent from a property in Llwynhendy on March 30.
He also admitted driving under the influence of drugs, possessing an offensive weapon, driving while disqualified and having no insurance.
Mrs Vaughan said: “The bike’s owner reported it missing as it had been parked outside the house under a protective cover.
“Officers saw the bike with a passenger on the back without a helmet on. There was a collision between the bike and the police car.
“Cann was found to be the rider of the bike and officers could smell cannabis on him and a drug swipe was taken.”
Sentencing Cann, District Judge Christopher James said custody was the only option due to the seriousness of the offences.
He was sentenced to 16 weeks for driving while disqualified and a further eight weeks for the other offences, which will run concurrently.
Cann was also disqualified from driving for three years and a destruction order was made for the knuckleduster.
