Saints still rolling along

-

THE St Dogmaels bandwagon rolled merrily along after the Costcutter League division one leaders outplayed reigning champions Lampeter Town in a 4-0 romp in the Teifi Estuary village.

Saints, who look unlikely to slip up, have a game in hand on their rivals and if banking maximum points would soar eight points clear at the top.

The pacesetters played attractive one-touch football and when drafting on substitutes during the second period continued to pull most of the strings, leaving the champions well beaten.

The visitors had a few halfchances early on, but after that it was virtually all St Dogmaels. They led before the break from an 18-yard strike by winger Billy Myers.

Early in the second half leading marksman Louis Harding tapped home from inside the six-yard box before subs Aled Rees and Mike Diggle made sure of maximum points for the seventh time on the trot.

An understrength Newcastle Emlyn came out on top 5-2 against a disappointing Cardigan Town outfit at King George V Playing Field.

It was all over bar the shouting at the interval with the visitors leading 3-1 after goals from veteran Carwyn Thomas, who bagged a brace, and central midfielder John Curran.

Huw Jones and Scott Williams netted further goals for the Reds during the second period, while Angus Rickord and Steff Davies netted for the Magpies.

Llandysul lost ground on leaders St Dogmaels after being held to a goalless draw against Crannog at the Urdd Centre, while Ffostrasol banked maximum points for the second time with a 1-0 win over visitors Llanboidy.

Maesglas retained the leadership of division two after a hard-earned 3-1 win over visitors Ffostrasol Reserves at Maes Radley.

Aaron Eldridge hit two goals for the Blues and John Midgley was also on the scoresheet.
