Crwbin Silver Band Under musical director Craig Roberts the band is preparing for this Saturday’s South East Wales Brass Band Associatio­n contest in Cardiff. The test piece is Oceans by Goff Richards. The Silver Band have two concerts in Pontyberem Memorial Hall leading up to Christmas. On December 8 they are guest performers alongside Britain’s Got Talent winner Gruffydd Wyn, Ysgol Pontyberem and Cor Llanddarog a’r Cylch from 7pm. On Friday, December 14, the band holds its Christmas concert with Ysgol Maes y Gwendraeth pupils in the Memorial Hall from 7pm. Ticket details available from the hall reception desk on 01269 871075. Yoga Club Meets in the Memorial Hall on Thursdays: First session from 10.30am; second session from 11.45am.

Library Opening times are Mondays 10am to noon; Wednesdays 10am to 1pm and 4pm to 7pm. Users can borrow up to 10 books while there is free internet access during library opening hours. DVDs can be rented. Winter carnival and fair On Friday at 6pm the parade will leave the Plas-y-Mor complex and make it’s way to the Memorial Gardens Burry Port for the switching on of the Christmas lights and Carol singing. This will be followed by the Christmas fair in the Memorial Hall with various stalls and refreshmen­ts. The children will be able to meet Santa. Entry £1 for adults and children. This is organised by the Pembrey and Burry Port Carnival Committee.

Christmas fair This is hosted by the Methodist Church with entrance via the Leslie Griffiths Centre on Glanmor Terrace, Burry Port, SA16 0NE on Saturday, December 8, from 10am until 3pm. Free entrance, and meeting Santa is also free. Coffee and mince pies will be served for which we would welcome donations. There will be various stalls. Proceeds will be shared between the Methodist Church and SSAFA (the Armed Forces charity).

Probus Club The Burry Port and Pembrey club met recently. The guest speaker was Ray Howells with a talk entitled Sights of Sospan. With the aid of some interestin­g photograph­s he showed how Llanelli has changed over a period of 30 to 40 years. His talk was well received by all members. A vote of thanks was given by the president David Owens. The next meeting at the Ashburnham Hotel is on Wednesday, December 5.

Art exhibition Audrey Ranson and Hilary Smith of Burry Port Art group are exhibiting their paintings and textile work in the Harbour Light tearoom at Burry Port harbour until the end of January 2019. The tearoom is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11am to 4pm but closed Monday and Tuesday.

Hatha Yoga classes These are held at the Leslie Griffiths Centre at the English Methodist Church in Glanmor Terrace on Monday evenings at 5.30pm and 7pm. Suitable for all abilities and includes healing meditation. £7 a session or £30 for five sessions. Enquiries to Emma on 07723 322400.

Friends of Tenovus Cancer Care The Pembrey and Burry Port friends have a Meet with Us group on Tuesday from 6.30pm to 8pm in the Red Lion Inn, Pembrey. Come along and meet our friends’ group for a cuppa, a chat and maybe join our volunteer
