Dylan’s hat-trick can help inspire Quins to greater success, believes Hook
ABERAVON Quins head coach Mike Hook hopes his side’s 27-22 bonus-point win at Waunarlwydd will give them the push they need as they attempt to climb off the bottom of One West Central.
Blindside Dylan McLachlan’s hat-trick inspired the Quins with fly-half Foard Cooksley also going over as well as kicking two conversions and a penalty.
It was a second win in three league matches for Hook’s men, who beat Ammanford last month, after they began the campaign with five defeats on the bounce.
“We’ve been there or thereabouts in games,” said Hook.
“For 60 minutes we’ve been competitive and just taken our foot off the gas and the same mistakes have cost us towards the end of games.
“Waunarlwydd was one of the games we targeted and now the pressure is off the boys a little bit going into the game with Glynneath on Saturday.
“They can just go out and play now and the confidence will be high on the back of getting five points.
“It’s a chance just to go out and have a crack at this one and then we’ll look at Tondu the week after.
“We’ve got a young squad and it’s a learning curve for a lot of them, but we know a few wins and you can go up a few places in this league.
“It can all change pretty quickly, we know that. For us it’s just about building some consistency with performances and then hopefully results will come as well.”
At the top of the table, leaders Ystalyfera made it seven wins out of eight with a 26-19 success at Ammanford.
Paul Davies, a penalty try, Luc Caines and Bowdy Davies were the try-scorers for Fera, with Steff Castle adding the extras.
It moves them on to 33 points, two clear of Glynneath, who have a game in hand and made it seven wins out of seven by thumping second-from-bottom Tondu 39-8.
