Crunch time looming for leaders Foel
ONE West leaders Felinfoel are gearing up for a big month that could go some way to determining their fate this season.
The Llanelli side, who were crowned champions last season before losing over two legs to One West Central winners Maesteg Quins in the Championship promotion play-off, are setting the pace again this term.
Their 39-20 home victory over Whitland on Saturday was a third on the spin and their eighth from nine games so far, with a defeat at Dunvant the only blot on their copybook.
Back-rowers Josh Skelding and Jordan Evans, centre Eray Wilson, scrum-half Luke Marsh and No. 8 Curtis Morris scored for Felinfoel at the weekend, with fly-half Aled Roberts kicking four conversions and two penalties.
Liam Price and Llyr Ebsworth went over for Whitland, with Nico Setaro converting both and adding two penalties.
Felinfoel are six points clear of Gowerton, who they host in a top-of-the-table clash on December 8.
Before that is a trip to fourthplaced Yr Hendy on Saturday, with a local derby at home against Llanelli Wanderers and a clash at third-placed Llangennech also to come in December.
Llangennech are 14 points back but have two games in hand.
“We’re very happy with the way we’re going,” said Felinfoel secretary Clive Richards. “We started off slowly against Whitland and were 10 points down but we came back and played well in the second half. We were deserved winners.
“There’s a good blend at the moment. We’ve got a young squad but with good experienced players in there.
“It’s a challenging month we’ve got in front of us with four tough games and those will go a long way to determining where we’re going to end up this season. We lost in the play-off last year; we were well beaten but we know what it’s like and obviously if we’re successful, and there’s a long way to go, we’d obviously relish playing in the Championship.”
Gowerton maintained their challenge by winning for the seventh time in the league this season as they claimed a 12-5 success at Llangennech.
In Three West A, Laugharne bounced back from their first defeat of the season by Llanybydder as they ran out 27-6 victors at bottom side Tregaron.
Laugharne are 10 points back on leaders Neyland but have three games in hand.
Haverfordwest won 29-23 at Llanybydder and Milford Haven triumphed 32-12 at Cardigan.
There were no matches in Three West B.
