IT’S ALL TO PLAY FOR AS EIGHT SET SIGHTS ON CROWN

-

THE fight for the Premier division title in the LTC Mobility Carmarthenshire League looks like being a thriller.

With defending champions Bwlch Rangers, Trallwm, Trostre Sports, Carmarthen Stars and Evans & Williams claiming just one point between them in the latest round of fixtures, only seven points separates the top eight clubs.

After winning their first six games in the league, Trallwm have suddenly lost their way and suffered a third consecutive defeat when crashing 5-1 in their away clash against Loughor Rovers.

Although Trallwm started well in taking an early lead, they were soon pushed on to the back foot as striker Mike Grimwade punished some poor defending with a match-winning hattrick.

Also on target was Louis Jackson, while the visitors also conceded an own goal.

There was a dramatic finish to the clash between Pontarddulais Town and visiting Bwlch Rangers.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, the home team battled back to lead 3-2 in injury time thanks to Sion Johnson, Joel Beynon and Shaun Harris, only to see Bwlch grab an equaliser.

But just when it looked as if the defending champions had rescued a point, striker Ian Williams scored a sensational winner for Pontarddulais. Jason Morris, Clayton Jenkins and Kellan Jenkins were on target for Bwlch.

Gorseinon Athletic cannot be counted out of the title hunt after a hard-earned 3-2 win at Carmarthen Stars.

Apart from being gifted an own goal, Nathan Logan and Robert Jones found the net for Gorseinon.

In the big game of the day, there was nothing to choose between Seaside and visiting Evans & Williams with the game ending in a 1-1 draw.

For the first 45 minutes the defences ruled, and it took an hour for Evans & Williams to break the deadlock as pressure from Liam Jones forced a home defender into turning the ball past his keeper.

But it wasn’t enough to hand his team maximum points as 16-year-old Lewis Smith rescued a point for Seaside in the 80th minute.

There is no change at the top of division one, with the gap between leaders Pontlliw and Ammanford Town Reserves remaining at six points.

After being beaten for the first time in the league the previous week, Pontlliw bounced back in no uncertain terms when defeating bottom club Abergwili 14-0 at home.

At half-time it was 6-0, and there were hat-tricks for James Howells and Luke Michael.

Danny Smale netted twice, and there were goals from Adam Scott, Jason Disbury, Jordan Gibbs, Andrew Shaw and Dan Ox. There was also an own goal.

It is not easy for Abergwili at the moment, but the club can be proud of their players who gave everything until the final whistle.

Ammanford Town Reserves followed up their win at Pontlliw by defeating CK Swiss Valley 3-1. A couple of goals from Craig Frater, plus one from Aaron Butler, were enough to
