Athletic seal cup passage

-

CARMARTHEN Athletic Ladies Hockey team 2nds sealed their passage into the next round of the cup with a 3-1 defeat of Gwent 4ths.

Carmarthen started confidently, applying pressure on Gwent from the off. Midfielders Lili Church, Kate Howell, Lucy Davies, Caitlin Marshall and Louise Mear worked hard to keep possession and distribute the ball to forwards Charlotte Harries, Emily Gard, Moli Stone and Claire Evans.

Carmarthen earned themselves a short corner and Gard found Siriol Richards, who fired home with a powerful strike from the top of the D.

It wasn’t long before Carmarthen were on the attack again and they doubled the advantage following some fine passing between Mear and Gard along the left wing, with a cross into the danger zone converted by Evans.

The final few minutes of the half saw Carmarthen hit the backboard for the third time following another break from Church, who used her speed to help transfer the ball down the wing to Stone, who swept the ball home.

Carmarthen looked to extend their lead after the break, but Gwent added some pressure of their own which kept the defence occupied.

And Gwent did get a goal their persistence deserved, though Carmarthen comfortably held on.

The respective player of the match awards went to Church and Richards.
