BODY­BUILD­ING star James ‘Flex’ Lewis was named the Brin Isaac sportspers­on of the year at the an­nual din­ner at Llanelli’s Stradey Park Ho­tel.

The 35-year-old, who lives in Las Ve­gas, was un­able to at­tend the event, but his par­ents picked up the award on his be­half, while Flex sent a mes­sage of thanks for recog­ni­tion of his record-break­ing Mr Olympia achieve­ments.

Wales rugby head coach War­ren Gatland and Wales foot­ball as­sis­tant coach Osian Roberts were the chief guests at an­other suc­cess­ful even­ing.

The run­ner up to Flex and win­ner of the Wal­ter Hughes Cup was 19-year-old judo cham­pion Danielle Wil­liams.

Llanelli Town AFC boss Andy Hill re­ceived the W Jack Hughes Cup as coach of the year; mul­ti­ple British cy­cling cham­pion Emma Fin­u­cane was the ju­nior sportspers­on of the year, tak­ing home the Star Cup and a cheque for a £1,000 with teenage pis­tol shooter Lucy Thomas run­ner-up and win­ner of the Stradey Cen­te­nary Cup.

Cricket stal­wart John Prick­ett was awarded the Kelly Evans Shield for ser­vices to sport.
