Parkrun events will keep Christmas calories at bay

THE Christmas and New Year period will see an action-packed programme of parkrun events across nine West Wales locations.

The 5k run is held every Saturday during the year, while the 2k run for juniors aged four to 14 is on Sunday mornings.

In 2018, parkrun running events have taken place at Llyn Llech Owain in Gorslas, Carmarthen Park, King George V Playing Fields in Llanelli and Aberaeron.

In March, Llyn Llech Owain celebrated its fifth anniversary. In that time, more than 3,500 participants had completed 20,000 parkruns.

All the 5k parkruns on Saturdays go ahead as normal on December 22, December 29 and the first weekend in January.

There are special festive events planned on Christmas Day morning at Llyn Llech Owain, Haverfordwest and Aberystwyth, with all starting at 9am.

On New Year’s Day, Swansea Bay will host the opening fixture of the year.

Aberystwyth and Haverfordwest will also welcome the new year with January 1 events.

Junior parkruns will go ahead in Carmarthen, Llanelli, Aberystwyth and Neath on December 23 and December 30.
