Crows scare another of the big boys

-

FOR the fourth time this season Trebanos took a losing bonus point against one of the WRU Championship’s leading sides.

Having given Pontypool and Cardiff Met a scare as well as running Ystrad Rhondda close earlier in the season, the Crows were leading Ystrad 7-3 at halftime in the return clash.

However, it was Ystrad who claimed an 18-12 win, a result that saw them take advantage of Cardiff Met’s 31-10 defeat at Newcastle Emlyn to move back up into second spot.

Liam Davies and Jay Harris got tries for Ystrad, with Corey Shephard kicking eight points. Skipper Rhys Thomas and Rhys Morgan scored for Trebanos, with wing Matthew Edwards converting one of them, but it could not prevent them from an eighth defeat from 11 matches.

Pontypool powered to a 12th win from as many games, running out 45-6 home victors over Beddau. Joel Mahoney scored a try in each half while Kieran Meek, Jordan Thomas, Aaron Coundley, Martin Luckwell and Cameron Watson-Boycott also dotted down.

Steffan Evans, Calum Evans, Osian Davies and Llyr Jones were all among the scorers in a timely bonus-point home win for Emlyn over Cardiff Met, only their third triumph of the campaign.

It was a tale of two secondhalf penalties in a low-scoring game at Bedlinog where their game with Newbridge ended 3-3.

Maesteg Quins v Tata Steel and Narberth’s home clash with Rhydyfelin were postponed.

In One West, Kidwelly just had the edge on Gowerton 8-3, while Llangennech went down 29-10 at Aberystwyth.

Felinfoel’s game against Llanelli Wanderers was abandoned at half-time, while Tenby United and Crymych only got 20 minutes in before that game was called off. Both games were scoreless at the time.

In Two West, Matthew Bowen, Guto Arnold, Sion James and Steffan Jones touched down for Tycroes as they bagged a 25-10 bonus-point win at Tumble. Richard Evans kicked five points.

Pontyberem won 33-5 at Burry Port, while Fishguard against Loughor was abandoned after 30 minutes with the hosts leading 3-0.

Neyland went top of Three West A thanks to a crushing 71-3 win over Tregaron. Laugharne lost 13-0 at Cardigan and Aberaeron won 23-9 at Llanybydder.

Nantgaredig edged out Llandeilo 12-11 in Three West B to go six points clear of Amman United. There were also wins for Cefneithin, Bynea and Lampeter Town.
