Cwm seek festive lift in title hunt

-

CWMAMMAN United enter the festive period knowing they are in contention for the biggest prize in their history.

Cwm lie sixth in the Welsh League division one table but are among a host of teams who can conceivably claim to be in the title race.

A fine run has carried them to six wins from their nine league games. They are just nine points adrift of pacesetters Penybont but have games in hand on all the teams around them.

In fact, Cwm – along with Briton Ferry Llansawel – have played the fewest number of games of any team in the division.

Cwmamman are out of both cups they competed in so just have the league to focus on. But it was one of those cup defeats, when they were beaten 4-3 by Welsh Premier League side Aberystwyth Town in the Welsh Cup, that proved they can cut it against the best club sides in Wales.

That was their last encounter as last weekend’s visit to Goytre United was postponed due to the dreadful weather conditions that swept across South Wales. But they should be back in action this Saturday when they make the trip to struggling Port Talbot Town.

The Victoria Road side are hovering just above the relegation zone with two wins from their 13 matches.

The following Saturday Cwm host Cwmbran Celtic at Grenig Park. Cwmbran are currently a point ahead of Cwm in the table but have played four more matches.
