Bebb takes top award as Thomas shines on the course
THE final competition of 2018 for the seniors at Derllys Court Golf Club saw more than 50 members turn out for a nine-hole stableford.
And it resulted in one of the club’s most popular members, Jeff Thomas, taking first place after an excellent bottom-nine score of 22 points.
Playing off a handicap of 15, his three-over par scorecard held off the challenge of Peter Jones and Ken Breaker, who both finished on 20 points.
In the front nine-hole competition, five players were separated by just one point, with Roddy Thomas beating Chris Cousins on card countback, both scoring 21 points.
David Rogers, John Phillips and John Llewellyn were all tied just a point behind.
After an excellent Christmas buffet, attention turned to the annual general meeting where members elected Tony Wood as the new seniors’ captain, with Hugh Thomas as his vice-captain.
Special thanks were recorded to all the club’s green staff for the hard work in maintaining the course during the hot summer and to the Walters family in acknowledgement of the club’s 25th anniversary.
Members were congratulated on raising more than £2,000 during the year for the captain’s charity, West Wales Prostate Cancer, and the meeting also acknowledged the work of three highly respected previous captains, John Hartley, Roger Horsfall and Jeff Thomas.
All three are retiring from the committee at the end of this season and have each contributed a vast amount to the section.
Graham Bebb received the Clubman of the Year award for his work as competition secretary.
The seniors now take a winter break from their eclectic competition, with the final three rounds starting in the first week of February.
