Rivals can close gap as leaders sit out festive action

-

WITH unbeaten Costcutter League leaders St Dogmaels forced to kick their heels on Boxing Day due to opponents Cardigan Town opting to have their once-a-season postponement entitlement, reigning champions Lampeter Town and Crannog can make up ground.

Lampeter have improved in leaps and bounds recently with five league and cup wins on the trot, netting 24 goals without conceding.

Player-manager Terry Witts and team-mates travel the short journey to eighth-placed Felinfach, who have won four times in 12 outings.

The Milkmen gave the pacesetters a run for their money recently and on their own stamping ground can be expected to pose problems for Town.

Crannog will also hope to narrow the gap at the top with an eighth win in 12 starts when seventh-placed Llanboidy provide the opposition at the Urdd Centre.

The coastal villagers are only four points adrift of St Dogmaels and another success would give them cause for optimism, especially as they have to meet the leaders twice.

Fourth-placed Llandysul put together an encouraging run earlier in the season, but the Swallows have been hit by a spate of injuries, and will hope to have a full squad available when hosting Ffostrasol at Llandysul Park.

Newcastle Emlyn have blown hot and cold this term, and like Llandysul have suffered injuries, but the Reds will be strongly fancied to bank maximum points against bottom side Bargod Rangers at Parc Emlyn.

Fixtures (December 26): Div. 1 Crannog v Llanboidy; Felinfach v Lampeter Town; Llandysul v Ffostrasol; Newcastle Emlyn v Bargod Rangers.
