FOUR-STAR PENYFAN CLINCH CUP PASSAGE

-

PENYFAN United booked their passage into the third round of the TG Davies Cup following a comfortable 4-0 win at Llangennech.

After getting the better of the early exchanges, it came as no surprise when Penyfan took an early lead through Ryan Lewis.

It wasn’t long before the advantage was doubled courtesy of Curtis PriceWilliams to make it 2-0 at half-time.

The second half continued in much the same vein, and when Dan Anderson made it 3-0 the visitors had one foot in the next round.

Liam Ellis then rounded off the scoring.

Also through to the third round are LTC Mobility Carmarthenshire League Premier division leaders Evans & Williams, who thoroughly deserved their 3-1 win in the away tie against Ammanford Town Reserves.

After holding their own for most of the opening quarter, the home team found themselves in trouble after conceding two goals in two minutes.

Rory Johns broke the deadlock on 20 minutes when netting from a cross by Max Borgessi, who 60 seconds later scored himself with a deflected shot. It was 2-0 at the interval.

Evans & Williams were guilty of missing a number of chances, before Liam Jones eventually hit the target for 3-0 in the 70th minute.

Although the home team did cut the deficit five minutes later, the visiting defence stood firm for the remaining quarter of an hour.

It was also comfortable enough for Seaside, who made ground advantage count in the 3-0 win against Kidwelly Town.

Seaside had to wait until the 35th minute to open their account, when Dai Hughes smashed the ball past the keeper from a free-kick by Jamie Bowen. It was the only goal scored in the opening half.

The second goal in the 50th minute was identical to the first, the only difference was that Ben Honeybun got the final touch.

From a free-kick by Jamie Bowen, the ball came off the post from a shot struck by Hughes.

The Kidwelly defence continued to come under pressure, and it was all over bar the shouting when Hughes scored his second goal in the 75th minute.

In the fourth round of the West Wales Intermediate Cup, there was no Christmas cheer for Trallwm, who were knocked out 3-1 at Giants Grave.

A goal by Steffan Evans wasn’t enough for the visitors. Ross Hudson, Tim Stephens and Richard Evans netted for Giants Grave.

There were no games in the Premier division and division one, but in division two Carmarthen United returned to winning ways when defeating visiting Carway 2-0. Scott Jarvis scored a goal in each half for the home team.

Reserve division one leaders Evans & Williams stretched their advantage at the top of the table to 16 points, and kept their 100 per cent record intact thanks to an impressive 6-2 victory at home to Pontarddulais Reserves.

The visiting defence found Craig Richards too hot to handle, with the striker netting four of the goals.

Jaymee Challinor scored the other two.

In the big game in reserve division two, CK Swiss Valley recovered from a 2-0 half-time deficit to claim three points in a 3-2 win at Burry Port.

The fightback was inspired by two goals from Mikey Thomson, while also on target was Kevin Davies.

In the only other game played in the division, four of the goals for Loughor Rovers A in the 6-2 win away to Pwll Athletic Reserves were shared between 16-year-old Rhys Piper and Romanian-born Dmitri Viacau, both of which were penalties. The other scorers for Loughor were Isaac Thorne and Rhys Salter.

It is the last programme of the year next Saturday, and there are four games scheduled in the Premier division.

And with leaders Evans & Williams having no game, Trostre Sports will start the new year on top of the table on goal difference if they claim three points from the away clash against Tumble United.

It will be a surprise if Trostre don’t manage to win, and Carmarthen Stars will be looking to step up their title challenge with a win at home to Seaside.

In the other games, Dafen host Killay for a second consecutive week, while Loughor Rovers travel to play Pwll Athletic.

Whatever happens in the away game against Llandovery Town, nothing can change the fact that Pontlliw will be sitting on top of the division one table come the start of the year.

And having beaten Llandovery 9-2 at home back in September, it would take a brave man to bet against the visitors completing the double.
