Leaders face trip to Emlyn

-

WITH Costcutter Football League clubs engaged in numerous competitions, fixture pile-ups at the end of seasons have occurred on several occasions.

If there is a repeat during May, some are likely to point to a lengthy gap between fixtures halfway through the campaign.

The league management is satisfied that if there is not a long lay-off through adverse weather, there will be no major problems.

Division one leaders St Dogmaels, who are still involved in five competitions, will have been inactive for five weeks when visiting Newcastle Emlyn on Saturday.

Also this weekend Cardigan Town host Aberaeron Reserves without having kicked a ball in anger since the game against Crannog at King George V Playing Field on November 24.

Crannog joined Saints at the top after a 4-0 win over visiting Llanboidy and a 4-4 draw at Llandysul on Saturday.

Although the coastal villagers share the leadership, unbeaten Saints have four games in hand, while reigning champions Lampeter Town are two points back after a goalless draw at Felinfach.

Ffostrasol bagged a 3-0 Boxing Day win at Llandysul where the home side pressed for lengthy periods but failed to penetrate a resolute Wanderers defence. Ffostrasol goalkeeper Steffan Jones was outstanding, pulling off a number of quality saves during the opening 45 minutes and covering himself in glory after the break with some stunning stops.

Central defender Gethin Davies was a tower of strength as the Swallows threw everything into attack.

For the visitors, Owen Thomas headed home at a corner midway through the first half, Adam Jones scrambled the second goal just before the hour and Gethin Davies wrapped up the points from the penalty spot.

Gary Davies was the hero for Crannog on Boxing Day as he hit a hat-trick and the other goal was claimed by Rhys Davies with a penalty.

In a thriller at Llandysul Park on Saturday, the hosts led 3-1 before being pegged back.

Llandysul, who included six players under the age of 18, netted through Scott Mayes (2), a 20-yarder from Jessie Clayton and a Lewis Jones penalty.

The Crannog goals came from a Gary Davies strike, a stunning Rhys Davies free-kick, George Colven and Huw Owen.

Llanboidy then hammered another nail into the Bargod Rangers relegation coffin with a 7-1 win. Tom Rogers and Caleb Young bagged two goals each and the other marksmen were Fraser Wyatt, Celt Thomas Jones and Bart Kasperski.
