Never too cold to make a post-Christmas splash!

- Joshua Knapman

MOST people will have spent Boxing Day curled in front of the TV with a festive film and loads of leftovers.

Some might even have braved the sales in the hope of bagging a few bargains.

But for some, the best way to spend their time off after Christmas is by heading out to the nearest body of water for a quick dip and a splash around.

Brave swimmers donned their costumes – both festive and swimming – and went straight for the water this Boxing Day, with events including the 33rd annual Walrus Dip at Pembrey taking place.

About 500 braved the water at Pembrey for this year’s Walrus Dip.

It was officially started by actor Julian Lewis-Jones and TV host Amanda Protheroe-Thomas, and most people dressed up to raise money for their chosen charities.

Elsewhere in Wales more than 700 people headed to Tenby’s North Beach to test the waters –

the highest number of entrants in the event’s 48-year history. It’s said to have been about 7C in the sea.

Tenby’s mayor, Councillor Sue Lane, said: “This morning has been absolutely brilliant and there are more people here than ever. I’ve spoken to visitors from all over the world.”
