Police officer sacked for searches that were unlawful
Passenger in van dies in M4 collision
A POLICE officer has been sacked after misusing a force’s computer system.
The officer, who has not been named, was dismissed without notice after a misconduct hearing held by Dyfed-Powys Police in December.
It heard that on four occasions, between January 24, 2017, and March 23 of the same year, the officer carried out searches on the force’s systems without having a lawful police reason to do so. The officer admitted the four computer misuse offences and, on September 11 last year, they were suspended.
It was alleged their conduct breached the standards of professional behaviour which relate to confidentiality and discreditable conduct.
The hearing was conducted by chief constable Matt Jukes of South Wales Police.
He determined the officer’s behaviour amounted to gross misconduct and they were dismissed on the spot.
The identity of the officer was withheld “due to the sensitivities surrounding the nature of the officer’s role”. A MAN has died after a four-vehicle crash on the M4.
Several people were taken to hospital following the incident on Monday, which happened between junction 48 (Hendy/Llanelli) to junction 49 (Pont Abraham roundabout) at around 4.30pm.
Dyfed-Powys Police said the man, who was a passenger in a white Peugeot Panther van, later died in hospital.
A spokesman for the force said: “DyfedPowys Police is appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at approximately 4.30pm on Monday, January 7, on the westbound carriageway of the M4 approximately 200-300 yards from Pont Abraham roundabout.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is asked to call the Serious Collision Invest-igation Unit on 101.
